The Delaware Insurance Commissioner's Office has five divisions: The Bureau of Captive and Financial Insurance Products, the Bureau of Company Examination, Rehabilitation and Guaranty, the Consumer Services and Investigations Division, the Fraud Prevention Bureau and the Producer Licensing and Continuing Education Division. Together, these five bureaus monitor and regulate all of the insurance companies and agents that sell insurance products to the citizens of Delaware.

Delaware Insurance Commissioner

Karen Weldin Stewart was elected Delaware's Insurance Commissioner in 2008. A native of Delaware, Commissioner Stewart will serve a four-year term. Commissioner Stewart joined the Insurance Department in 1989 in the role of Deputy Receiver. She remained in the position until 1993, when she left to open an insurance and reinsurance consulting firm called the Weldin Group. A former Assistant to State Senator Harris B. McDowell, III, Ms. Stewart prepared, edited and secured sponsors on several pieces of legislation. She has also worked with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners for over 20 years, working to protect consumers and promote competitive markets. Commissioner Weldin is also active in her community.  She serves on several boards, including the Peoples Settlement Association, which works to provide services to low-income families.
