The Mississippi Insurance Department is tasked with enforcing the laws and regulations of the insurance industry operating within the state. It seeks to ensure that the market is conducive to competition while at the same time making sure that the market is safe for consumers. Mississippi Insurance Commissioner
A native of Tupelo, Mississippi Commissioner of Insurance Mike Chaney was elected to the position in 2007. Prior to becoming Commissioner, Mr. Chaney served in the Mississippi House of Representatives for seven years and in the Mississippi Senate for eight. Commissioner Chaney has worked to streamline and modernize agent licensing procedures, to strengthen the state's Windpool along with developing several other initiatives. Commissioner Chaney also served in Vietnam with the United States Army and is a graduate of Mississippi State University.
