James J. Wrynn is the current commissioner of the New York Department of Insurance. James J. Wrynn was nominated on August 20, 2009 by Governor David A. Paterson to be the 40th Superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department. James has been a lifelong resident of Queens, and also graduated from St. Johns Law School in 1984. His resume is also quite extensive; he previously served as the Executive Director of the New York State Insurance Fund, was a founding partner in the law firm of MacKay Wrynn & Brady, LLP, is admitted to the federal and state courts in New York and New Jersey and the Supreme Court of the United States, and is also a actively involved member of the Irish community.
