North Dakota Annuity
The North Dakota Insurance Department was established in 1889. It is a regulatory agency with 45 full-time staff members dedicated to serving the public. The department has offices in the State Capitol and in Bismarck at 1701 South 12th Street. The mission of the department is to protect consumers by fairly and effectively administering the laws that regulate the insurance industry in North Dakota. The department also strives to maintain a strong marketplace in which consumers have access to high-quality products at competitive prices.
North Dakota Insurance Commissioner
Adam W. Hamm has been the Insurance Commissioner of North Dakota since October of 2007. He was first appointed, and was then elected to a four-year term. His current term began in November of 2008. Commissioner Hamm is an attorney with a background as a prosecutor for the Cass County State's Attorney's office. Prior to working for the State's Attorney's office, he was in private practice advocating on behalf of the businesses and individuals of the state of North Dakota. He specialized in areas such as commercial litigation and administrative agency law. Commissioner Hamm graduated from Sam Houston State University and received his J.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Law. He is a member of the North Dakota and Minnesota State Bar Associations and is also a member of the Governor's Task Force on Violent and Sexual Offenders.
