In Texas, dating back as far as 1876 and around the time Colorado was deemed a state, Texas created the Texas Department of Insurance. The mission of the TDI is to "protect insurance consumers by: regulating the insurance industry fairly and diligently, promoting a stable and competitive market, and providing information that makes a difference."
Texas Insurance Commissioner
Currently the Commissioner in charge of The Texas Department of Insurance is Mike Geeslin. Governor Rick Perry appointed Mike Geeslin as Texas Insurance Commissioner effective June 7, 2005. Geeslin received his undergraduate from Texas A&M University in 1991, with a bachelor's degree in communications and a minor in business administration. Geeslin was a also a member of the Corps of Cadets and served as a Ross Volunteer while at Texas A&M. Before he was appointed as Commissioner, Geeslin was the Deputy Commissioner for Policy in 2003 for TDI.
