It is the goal of the Utah Insurance Department to foster a healthy and competitive insurance market that offers consumers a range of reliable and affordable insurance products. To this end, the Department works to promote fair and reasonable practices to consumers within the state. It accomplishes this through education and the distribution of information. Utah Insurance Commissioner
Neal T. Gooch was appointed acting insurance commissioner in January of 2010 and was sworn in as the Utah Insurance Commissioner in May of that same year. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Gooch was the Deputy Insurance Commissioner. A native of Southeastern Idaho, Commissioner Gooch received his Bachelor's Degree from Arizona State University and his J.D from the Potomac School of Law in Washington, D.C. In 1982, Commissioner Gooch was appointed Assistant Attorney General for the state of Utah and served the Attorney General until August of 1997.
